New work using the internet, social media websites, and targeted web ads as an art medium.
is an ongoing project that addresses the fundamental difference between the definition of anonymity and the feeling of anonymity. While the true identity of street artist, Banksy, is disputed, the individual behind the pseudonym doesn’t inhabit the same psychological place as an individual who is genuinely unknown. The piece was conceived and executed as form of graffiti itself. Web ads were purchased to get this image on electronic walls where it may not be welcome. Links to the site were also manually posted is controversial or inappropriate internet spaces. I ultimately decided not to sign the piece for fear that it would conflict with the integrity of the work and be regarded as means to gain attention for myself rather than the message and form of the piece, but I in no way intend for it to be understood as anonymous.
